Why is there no proper care and management of cattle: High Court

Bilaspur. Accidents are happening continuously due to stray cattle on the roads. Cattle are also becoming victims of road accidents. During the hearing of the PIL on Monday, Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha asked the Law Officer of the Advocate General’s Office, who was present to plead on behalf of the state government, what action is being taken at the government level. The Chief Justice has directed the Chief Secretary to submit a reply with an affidavit. The PIL will be heard in two weeks.

The PIL was heard in the division bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice BD Guru. The Chief Justice asked the state government why proper care and management of cattle is not being done. In road accidents, people along with cattle are getting injured and dying. The Chief Justice has directed the Chief Secretary to submit information with an affidavit in this entire matter. The next date for hearing the PIL has been fixed after two weeks.

Officers had suggested putting geo tagging on cattle

During the last hearing, NHAI officials had told the High Court that after removing the cattle from the roads, they come back again. Due to lack of proper arrangements to keep the cattle safe, they come back on the roads again. The officials had suggested geo-tagging of cattle. During the hearing, the High Court sought information in this regard and directed to explain the entire plan.

Here again more than 18 cattle were crushed by an unknown vehicle:

The incident happened on Monday. It is from Eramsahi of Sipat police station area. Where under Bharatmala Project, bypass highway construction work is going on between Darrighat and Korba. It is being told that on Monday early morning, an unknown vehicle crushed more than 18 cows sitting on the road on the under construction highway.

High court’s directions not followed

The Chhattisgarh High Court is hearing this as a public interest litigation. Recently, the High Court had asked the state government for information in this regard with an affidavit. The court had also directed that the cattle be kept in a safe place. Despite this, the condition of the national highway is very bad. Cattle can be seen sitting on the Bilaspur-Ambikapur national highway round the clock.
