Never played a character like Rukmini

I am thankful to director Ashish that he thought that I could play the role of Rukmini. I had never played such a character in my career till now. While reading the character of Rukmani, I understood that it would be challenging, but at the same time I also understood that it would be a lot of fun doing it. I like layering characters that challenge me and give me an opportunity to do something different.

In this series, everything from the costume was very different. I am a Marathi, but I have not worn much Nauwari saree, but in this series I have worn Nauwari saree a lot. Rukmani character is very subtle, neither too loud nor too slow. Is in the middle. I was looking at the actors. I think the location gives you energy. Your costume, your actress all give you energy. In such a situation, it depends on you how you imbibe it in yourself and perform. I did the same thing while shooting Manawat Murders.

Commendable effort to dig up dead bodies

The Manawat Murders is based on real events of 1972. I was young at that time, so I had not heard much about it. As I grew up, I came to know about it. After growing up, I have heard about it from all the people. The only thing he had to say was that the Manavat murders were terrible. I would like to congratulate both the writer and director of the series that the effort they have made to dig up the dead bodies through this series is quite commendable.
Only afraid of lizards To be honest, as a viewer, I do not enjoy series or films of this genre much, hence I watch less. It's not that I'm afraid. In real life I am not afraid of anyone except lizards.

no more proving to anyone

I feel like I am at this stage of my career. Where I don't need to prove anything to anyone. There was a time when I felt that I should get humorous scenes. There should also be some crying scenes so that I can get the sympathy of the audience. If too many close-up shots of other actresses were taken, it would look bad. She also compared make-up and clothes with others, saying that theirs were better. It has been given to me very simply. All these things caused tension. (Laughs) After spending so many years in the industry, I have grown up now. I think growing up has its own fun. You understand that you don't need to prove yourself every time. It is understood that such characters are also very interesting, who neither cry much nor laugh much.

I got Hindi films only through auditions.

I have got most of the films in my career through auditions, be it Mission Kashmir, Dil Chahta Ho or the Italian film I did. I consider auditions to be legitimate. I think auditions are not about whether you can act or not, but about how perfect you will look in the role. Yes, sometimes giving auditions feels bad. When a 20 or 21 year old casting director calls you and asks you to send an audition, he then judges the audition. Hey, what do you know about me or the genre of acting that you are judging? (laughs) Well, things like this also keep you grounded that you have to start from zero.

The national anthem is not played when we actors receive awards.

The proudest moments of being an actor are when people honor your work. Recently I received the Best Actor Award from the Maharashtra Government. Was very happy. When sports persons receive awards, the national anthem is played. But the national anthem is not played when we actresses receive awards. I feel bad, but I would like to say that at that time this national song plays in my heart. Apart from the awards, when my father and my husband Nachiket praise my acting, it also gives me as much happiness as the awards.
