Adah Sharma: Actress Adah Sharma's new show Rita Sanyal is streaming on OTT platform Disney Plus Hotstar these days. Ada is in the title role in this show. Ada says that I am very excited to see what will be the response of the people. This show is going to run for a month. There is a new episode every day. This format is new for me too. Conversation with Urmila Kori on her show and its related preparations and controversy.
Rita Sanyal What was most appealing to you about saying yes to the show?
You can appear in two or at most three characters in a film or web series, but you can do ten characters. It is a dream for any actor. To be honest, I had never even dreamed that I would get to play ten characters in a project. Who would say no when he met, so this was the most important reason. This is the genre of crime thriller. Generally it is considered very serious. This is also serious, but in some pieces. Basically it is fantasy genre, which we don't usually do in Hindi. I had not done such a genre before. My character is Rita, who is a lawyer, detective and also takes different forms. Overall, there was a lot to be excited about in this show. I felt this should be done.
You have taken different looks for different characters, which look was your favourite?
Every day someone on the set was liking some other character. Same thing was happening with me also. However, I liked some characters a little more, like once in the show I will be seen in the role of a fisherman. I have also become a food inspector. For that I had to look 120 kg, so I wore a fat suit. Then saree on top of that, so I enjoyed it. I have played a role of a waitress, in which I have imitated the voice of a Bollywood actress.
Which character was the most difficult to play?
The real fun lies in getting into the character easily, if your hard work is visible then it is not good. I did not sleep the whole night for a character in this show. I was listening to the voice notes again and again to see whether I would capture his tone correctly or not, but when you see the character on the screen, you can see how easily he did it. I believe that one becomes successful only when hard work is not visible.
Whose personal life would you like to spy on?
I do a little stalking on social media. I don't do more than that. To be honest, there is not more time than that. A lot of time is spent in peeping on social media. You go to watch one photo or reel, but then you start watching 10 and you don't even realize the time. I try very hard not to look, but I can't control it much. But yes, I have made a rule that whenever I am on the set. I keep my mobile in silent mode and keep it in my bag. If the mobile is in my hand, I will not be able to fully focus on my acting and script. Yes, if I am sitting at home, I waste many hours watching reels on social media. Well, for the last one and a half to two years I have been getting very little time. These days I have started watching Hindi dubbed versions of Korean shows.
How do you see your current career?
This is the best phase of my career. An actor wants to do different types of work in his career and this time I am getting the same opportunity. Rita Sanyal is my fourth project to be released this year. Certainly, I would like to name The Kerala Story as the turning point. Since then, things have changed for me. Along with taking the name of that film, I will also take the name of my first film 1920 because no one had seen me anywhere before that film. He introduced me to people. There are many talented people, but they do not get the first opportunity.
After Kerala Story and Bastar, did you think that I might get typecast in films of the same genre?
I don't think it's a bad thing to be type cast in anything good. Kerala Story is the highest female grossing film. If people want to type cast me then do so. I would like to continue being a part of such films in future also. Well, I can't complain because in between Kerala Story and Bastar, I did the Sunflower series, in which I played the character of a bar dancer. I had never played that kind of character before. Right now I am doing Rita. This is also a very different kind of show. This show is far from reality.
Before you, Hina Khan was the first choice for this show?
To be honest, I had read this, but I did not know about it. When the makers approached me, they also did not tell me. I came to know this from the media. I do not know Hina Khan personally, but I keep watching her videos on social media. Now his journey is to fight the battle against cancer. She tells how strong she is. My best wishes will always be with him. By the way, I would like to tell that I was not the first choice for Kerala Story either. My first film 1920 also required a leading lady and a foreigner, but they liked my audition very much. My role was in Bastar. It was first written for a male character, later the gender was changed for me, so I was not the first choice in that too. I thought I was Rita's first choice but now I have come to know that I was not her choice either.
