bhojpuri film maddhim: Bhojpuri's first science fiction film 'Maddhim' is in the headlines these days. The director of this film is Vimal Chandra Pandey and writer is Vaibhav Mani Tripathi. Director Vimal Chandra has made two Hindi films before this. If we believe him, he wants to do something different and special in his language, because the common belief is that 'obscenity is another name for entertainment' in Bhojpuri cinema. Therefore Vimal and his team did not want to give current type of cinema to the Bhojpuri audience. This thinking of his became the basis of the film 'Maddhim'. Highlights of the conversation with Urmila Kori on the making of this film and its related aspects.
Writer Vaibhav Mani Tripathi had the idea of making science fiction in Bhojpuri.
The writer of this film is Vaibhav Mani Tripathi. It was his thinking that science fiction films should be made in Bhojpuri. Actually, Vaibhav has been a science student. He felt that the image of Bhojpuri should be changed. Vaibhav spent more than a year selecting the story for the mediocre film. Director Vimal Pandey says that Vaibhav and I had read more than 25 stories, but there was no story that felt like it could become the basis of Bhojpuri's first science fiction story. During this search, we read a story from the 60s. The original idea came from there on which we developed the story. We wrote six drafts of this story, and by the sixth draft the story was finalized.
The story of the film is murder mystery, preparation to make a trilogy
Talking about the story of this film, the film starts from the year 1998. A famous scientist dies in a road accident. He has made a discovery, but he dies before it can reach the people. The story comes to the present day. A writer has been murdered. This is the story of how the police inspector gets connected to that invention while solving the mystery of this murder and the secrets of the past and present are revealed. The length of this film is 90 minutes. Director Vimal Chandra Pandey says that we want to make a trilogy. This is why we have kept the length of the film at 50 minutes. The story will be different, but the basis of these three films will be science fiction. Preparations for the second film have also started. Currently the story is being worked on.
Popular actors of Bhojpuri cinema were not wanted in the film
Director Vimal Chandra says that at the time of casting, it was very clear in our mind that such artists should be found who are very good, are from Bhojpuri belt and speak Bhojpuri very well, but are working in Hindi, because in Bhojpuri. We did not want to start our film with the images of the people who were working. In such a situation, there was a lot of difficulty in convincing people for casting. We had to struggle a lot even to narrate the script, it is not a Bhojpuri film as you are thinking. We are doing something good. Time passed and then slowly people joined. Paritosh Tripathi, who is a popular face of TV reality shows. Actress Aruna Giri has been a part of good Bhojpuri films. Krishna Gopal has done some mini series for Amazon Prime. There is Om Dubey, who has done some good shows on Doordarshan. Rajesh Tiwari has been a part of director Neeraj Pandey's films. Gora serial has been done on Doordarshan. There is Anshuman, who despite being a Bhojpuri speaking person, was away from Bhojpuri films. We brought Anshuman by conveyance and after doing this film, he is going to be a part of more Bhojpuri films.
Will not be able to recover the cost at present
These days the movie Saint is streaming on the OTT platform. This is a non-exclusive release, in which the audience is watching this film by paying money. Some percentage of this money is given to the producer and some to the OTT platform. Generally, there is full possibility of recovering the cost only in exclusive deals, because OTT gives the entire money to the producer. Only after that the film comes on OTT and then the film remains on the same OTT platform. According to the team of this film, the cost has not been recovered yet. Currently talks are going on with many other OTT channels also. Director Vimal says that we are getting a good response from countries outside India also. We are continuously getting good feedback from Canada, Philadelphia, Romania.
Due to low budget, Mumbai's Mud Island had to be converted into Gorakhpur.
Director Vimal Chandra says that until the face of Bhojpuri films changes, things will not be easy. This is the reason why we got very less budget for this film. It can be said that we had to make it on a very low budget. We did a lot of workshops. Only our workshop ran for 10-12 days, so that our time was not wasted on the set and we could also deliver quality work. The shooting was completed in 12 days. The shooting of the film has been done in Mumbai. We wanted Gorakhpur. Our story is also based in Gorakhpur, but the travel and accommodation arrangements for all the actors from Mumbai were increasing the budget of our film. Then it was decided that the shoot would take place in Mumbai only. Mumbai's Mud Island had to be converted into Gorakhpur and most of the shooting took place indoors there too. This is a science fiction film. The VFX budget in this was quite good. There is a mirror in it, in which faces are visible after some time. For this, we had to add VFX from the script level itself, because we had to design the scene accordingly. Even in a low budget I have tried to do justice to this aspect.
The film got the support of KV Production
Director Vimal Kumar says in a complaining tone that there was such a huge crowd at the trailer launch of Pushpa-2, but when a film wants to do something different in Bhojpuri, then no one from the financier, distributor to the producer promotes it. Is. He says that the audience will not see anything different. The same happened with our film also. We approached many people to produce the film, but half of the people said that who would watch science fiction in Bhojpuri. No one wants to break the format of obscenity. However, KV Production understood our thinking and supported the film. The producer of KV Production is from Ranchi and like all of us, she also wanted to see something good in the cinema of her soil and her language.
Pankaj Tripathi has liked the film a lot
The director of the film says that our effort is to show this film in colleges of Bihar, UP and Jharkhand. We also want to show this film to Bhojpuri speaking actors. This film was recently shown to Pankaj Tripathi ji. He liked the film. Manoj Bajpayee has also been contacted to watch the film and give his feedback and talks are also going on with people.
