Panchatantra Elephant Story: An elephant used to work in a circus. His name was Moti. He was very straightforward. He was in the circus since he was a child.

He remained tied to a peg the whole day. His mahout would untie him in the morning, take him away, beat him and make him perform various stunts. After that, in the afternoon Moti used to perform in the circus due to fear. He used to get tired by evening. But he had to perform tricks till late night.

At night he used to sleep tired. Here his mahout also spread a cot near him and slept.

One day when Moti woke up in the morning, he saw that his mahout was not there. He had gone to his village. That's why there was to be no show of pearl today. Moti was very happy that at least he got leave for a day.

Here the circus owner was very upset. All the tickets had been sold. If the elephant show is not held then the public will create havoc.

The mischievous monkey was jumping in his cage.

Pearl: Naughty, today is my holiday. My mahout has gone to the village.

Naughty: What are you talking about brother, this circus owner can give leave any time, he will definitely make some arrangements.

Pearl: But I only understand the mahout's signals. How will I create a scene?

Naughty: Brother, we are helpless and locked in the cage. But despite being so strong, you remain tied to a peg. Don't you know that if you try a little, you can break the rope and run away. No one will be able to stop you.

Pearl: That's fine but where will I go? Ever since I regained consciousness, I have found myself tied to a peg. This mahout gives me food, beats me and makes me perform tricks. Sometimes I feel like running away somewhere.

Naughty: Brother, do me one thing tonight, uproot your peg and then widen the bars of my cage and I will sit on your back. Then both of us will go to the forest. They caught me from there and brought me. This will be beneficial for both of them.

Pearl: But if anyone comes to know then it will be very bad. My mahout pricks with a sharp iron rod and draws out blood.

Naughty: That's the only difference. Despite being so powerful, you are afraid of a small person.

Moti gets courage after listening to his words.

Here the circus owner calls another mahout for a day. But Moti does not understand his signals and he gets angry and hits Moti a lot. Moti was crying at night tied to his peg.

Naughty: Brother, crying will do no good, take advantage of such a big body, break my cage, and that front gate will fall with one hit. Then both of us will go to the forest. You can live there happily, eat food all day and there will be no one to stop you.

Moti does the same at night. Both of them run away from the circus and keep walking throughout the night and reach the forest from the city. After reaching there Moti becomes very tired. He starts resting under a tree. The mischievous monkey also starts resting on a branch of the same tree.

In the morning both of them bid farewell to each other and go their separate ways. Moti keeps roaming around in search of food all day. He did not like the grass and fruits of the forest. His mahout used to prepare food for him separately. Moti had got used to it.

In the afternoon Moti goes to the river to drink water. There are crocodiles who go after the pearl to eat it. Moti somehow runs away and saves his life.

Similarly, when evening comes, he gets tired and starts resting under a tree, then a herd of elephants comes there to drink water.

Pearl: Brothers, I am also your companion, include me in your group.

Elephant: No, we are elephants of the jungle and you are a circus, what match do we have with you? We will keep you with us. If any trouble comes, you don't even know how to escape. Because of you, we will also become the target of hunter's bullet.

Moti becomes sad after hearing this. He sits alone under the tree. The next day he goes out to find the mischievous monkey. But that too is nowhere to be found.

Two days pass like this. Moti starts becoming weak because he was not liking the tasteless food of the forest. One day he walks slowly and reaches the gate of the circus. After reaching there he starts shouting at the gate. Hearing his voice, both the circus owner and his mahout come.

The mahout is very happy to see the pearl.

Mahavat: I know the new mahout beat you a lot that is why you left. But you couldn't live without me so you came back. After all, we have been together since childhood.

The mahout brings back the pearl and ties it to a peg. After some time, Moti sees that the naughty monkey is also sitting in his cage.

Pearl: Hey how are you here?

Naughty: Brother, I came two days ago. No animal there would talk to me. In fact, other monkeys even attacked me. They say we are circus animals and cannot live with them. That's why I came back.

Pearl: Yes brother, we are fine here. Now this house is our family. Now just do your work well. So that we can get proper food and suffer less. It is better to live in this family than to live alone in that freedom.

After this, Moti started obeying everything his mahout said and the mahout also no longer hit Moti.

Lesson: Real happiness is found only in one's own home.
