The process of meeting of egg and sperm happens so fast that you cannot even guess. But if both of you are not healthy, then this process will not prove to be fruitful. Therefore, instead of the right position, focus on health and time.

After marriage, most women are under the pressure of pregnancy. However, the situation has changed now. Married couples now plan their pregnancy according to their convenience and time. But sometimes, despite continuous efforts, some women are unable to conceive. This period of trying can range from a few months to a few years. During this period, every kind of suggestion is tried, from friends, relatives to Google. Some of which are mere myths (Myths about pregnancy) and have no connection with reality. If you are also planning a pregnancy, then you must be getting a lot of such advice. To help you, we spoke to a gynecologist (sex and pregnancy myths) about the truth of these claims.

What are the myths related to sex and pregnancy?

There is a lot of information available about trying to get pregnant. You should lie down after sex to conceive, raise your legs after sex for pregnancy, stop drinking alcohol (alcohol and pregnancy), start taking prenatal vitamins (vitamins for pregnancy planning), do it in a certain position and avoid peeing after sex.

Here are some myths that you should stop believing and it is important to know the correct ways of how you can get pregnant.

Does lying down after sex help in conceiving?

Let’s get straight to the point, there is no evidence that lying down after sex increases the chances of getting pregnant. In a large, study conducted in Helsinki, participants were asked to either move around immediately or rest for 15 minutes after intrauterine insemination (a procedure in which semen is injected directly into the uterus).

At the end of the study, about 32% of the women who rested became pregnant, while about 40% of the women who moved around also became pregnant. The researchers said the results were not significant enough to recommend either method.

It takes about 2 minutes for sperm to reach the fallopian tubes using either method. This means that sperm are close to the finish line even before you wake up.

How long should one lie down after sex (lying down after sex to get pregnant)

Even though there is no scientific evidence that lying down after sex won’t hurt you, it won’t hurt you. So, how long should you wait? 15 minutes is a good idea before getting up, but less than that is fine.

Sperm can reach the fallopian tubes (where they need to be for pregnancy to occur) within 2-10 minutes after your partner finishes. On average, this takes 5 minutes.

Does raising legs help in getting pregnant (raising legs after sex for pregnancy)

You’ve probably been told by a family member with the best of intentions that crossing your legs over your head or placing a pillow under your hips will make you have a baby. But that’s another myth.

The idea is to help the sperm travel in the right direction. As we said earlier, they don’t need your help. They will reach the fallopian tubes in minutes.

The most important thing you can do is to have sex during your fertility window, meaning when you are fertile.

What is the best time to get pregnant?

If lying down, elevating your legs, and even sex positions don’t help you get pregnant, then what will?

Dr Ritu Sethi says, “Timing is everything. You should have sex during your fertility window. This is the day of ovulation and the 3-5 days before. Within 12-24 hours of ovulation, your chances of getting pregnant are very low. So, it is ideal to have sex just before ovulation occurs.”

Sperm can live in the uterus for up to 5 days, which means even if you haven’t ovulated yet, getting them into position early could still work.
