Maharashtra: Adani Group has secured a long-term contract to supply 6,600 MW of renewable and thermal power to Maharashtra. Their bid was Rs 4.08 per unit, beating competitors JSW Energy and Torrent Power.
Adani’s bid is Rs 1 less per unit than Maharashtra’s current electricity rate. Power supply will start 48 months after the Letter of Intent is issued.
For this contract, Adani will provide solar power at Rs 2.70 per unit, while coal power prices will vary based on coal costs. In March, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) issued a special tender for 5,000 MW of solar power and 1,600 MW of coal power.
Adani’s bid was lower than the second-highest bid of Rs 4.36 per unit from JSW Energy and the average power price of Rs 4.70 per unit in Maharashtra last year. The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has set the average power purchase price at Rs 4.97 per unit for 2024-25.
Adani Power, India’s largest thermal power producer, and Adani Green Energy Limited, the largest renewable energy company, will expand their capacities significantly by 2030.
