On Monday morning at 6 o'clock, a speeding truck driver hit 18 cattle on the bypass road being built from Masturi to Korba under the Bharatmala Project. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the Sipat and Masturi police became active. The police showed promptness and arrested the fleeing driver Anish Kumar Bhardwaj.
Cattle are dying in accidents every day
Case No. 1
On September 13 and 14, 16 cattle died after being hit by vehicles near Halditola in separate road accidents on National Highway 49. After the incident, Sirgitti police registered a case and arrested the drivers, but could not ascertain whether the animals were domesticated or homeless.
Case No. 2
On July 16, a driver of a vehicle ran over nine cattle on Dhuma Silphari National Highway, Sirgitti. Nine cattle died in this. Sirgitti police registered a crime in the case, but it could not be ascertained whether the cattle were homeless or someone had raised them and left them open at night.
Chaupal scheme ineffective
The district administration is running an awareness campaign through Chaupal for animal keepers and villagers about the safety of stray animals. Even after the campaign, there is no reduction in accidents. It is clear from this that somewhere or the other, there are question marks on the implementation of Chaupal scheme.
Crime will be registered against animal keepers
Collector Avnish Sharan and SP Rajnesh Singh had given strict instructions to the officials to protect the cattle in the meeting of Animal Cruelty Prevention Committee. The collector had said that if any cattle owner leaves the cattle helpless on the road, action will be taken against him. SP Rajnesh Singh has also announced a cash prize to the person who identifies the owners of the helpless cattle.

Under the Bharatmala Project, a driver dumping sand near Eramshahi on the Korba bypass from Masturi-Darrighat has hit the cattle. After receiving information, the vehicle was seized and a case was registered against the driver and he was arrested.
