ctrl movie review:Social media has become an important part of our lives in the present times. It has connected us with more and more people, but has distanced us from ourselves. This is why we are away from real happiness and are searching for solace in virtual happiness. However, this virtual peace has its price. We are also giving them the control of our lives. Director Vikramaditya Motwane's Ananya Pandey starrer film Control is on this issue. The theme of the film is contemporary and powerful, but as attractive as the theme of this one hour 40 minute film is, the story and screenplay remained superficial. Vikramaditya Motwane has failed to do justice to this subject. Watching the film, one feels that perhaps he could have done more justice to this subject in the format of a web series.
The film makes one aware of the dark side of social media
The story of the film is of Naila (Ananya Pandey). Who meet Joy (Vihaan Samat) in a college festival. Friendship occurs and their friendship then turns into love. Both are content creators by profession. Things are going very well in both their personal and professional life. The couple are well-known influencers, but things soon turn sour when Naila sees her boyfriend Joey getting close to someone else. They have a messy breakup, in which they are even made fun of on social media. After which Naila decides to erase Joy's memories not only from her life but also from her social media accounts and with the help of a new AI app Ctrl While erasing Joy's memories from the virtual world, Naila discovers that Joy is missing from the real world as well. What happened to Joy? Is this new app Ctrl responsible for Joy's disappearance? This film further answers all these questions.
Advantages and disadvantages of the film
Information revolution and technological development has created a virtual world, where everything is available at just one click, but we are forgetting that this world is controlling us using our data. This film shows this topic but again has not been able to show anything in depth. There were expectations because of Vikramaditya's name being associated with the film, but after half an hour of the beginning, the film starts leaving its impact and in the end, the climax of the film further weakens it. However, in the format of web series, it deals with this subject and Could have done justice to its characters with depth. There is nothing different or shocking in the film. We have heard this about misuse of digital foot prints before and have also seen it in many Screenlife stories including foreign searches. This film has not been able to show anything other than that. When Ananya's character searches for evidence in Joy's laptop, why does she not open that link on the same laptop. Why does he share it on his laptop so that the story reaches the climax? This may be termed as cinematic liberty but the ending of the film is shocking. Why does Naila once again seek solace in the virtual world instead of real people? The camerawork of the film is its strong point, in which as per the theme of the film, we see the entire film from the internet's perspective. WhatsApp call, post, video, comment, camera, time on the screen is visible on the screen and through this The story has been told. The song music of the film is in accordance with the story.
Rest of the characters including Ananya do justice
For some time now, Ananya Pandey has increased her stature as an actress with projects like Kho Gaye Kahan Hum, Call Me Bay on OTT. She is good in this film, but it doesn't add much to her filmography. Vihaan Samat impresses with his acting. Ayushmann Khurrana has become the voice of AI character Alan in the film, along with him the rest of the characters do justice to their roles.
